I knew we were in trouble when I read a guest review from just prior to our check-in reporting the house smelled strongly of cigarette smoke. They weren't lying! This deterred us from enjoying the home, in spite of its stellar location. Additionally, the home was not well cleaned- there was sand in the couch creases and on top of the bedding, dusty doors, sticky surfaces in the kitchen. The furniture is worn out and generally dirty (leather peeling off the sofa), closet doors with many large scuff marks, moldy shower, peeling paint off the back deck, broken AC vent cover in the dinind room, and many large spots of mold and mildew on the ceiling of the open storage area underneath the house. The beach was quiet while we were there and the walk down there wasn’t far at all. There were a few things that were disappointing about the house. It had a very strong smoke odor when we arrived, when I contacted Island Realty they brought a small air purifier and replaced the a/c filters which I appreciated, the smell was still strong throughout the week we were there. The WiFi was very flaky, but we didn’t need it much. We come to Charleston twice a year and have used Island Realty multiple times. They have great customer service, and the office staff was wonderful! This location was great, and we really enjoyed our stay overall. That said, the house could use some updates—particularly on the exterior and side areas. The yard also needs more thorough cleaning, as our pup ended up with pink eye after the visit. A few small improvements would go a long way, such as tidying up the garage and adding games, and finishing the locked downstairs room to make it usable, possibly as a game or rec room. We usually vacation in the Lowcountry every summer and have stayed at various properties. This takes the cake. We decided to vacation with our 2 dogs this summer and found this house because of it was extremely dog friendly. It really was. Even without dogs, we would have loved this property. The icing on the cake was the huge fenced in back yard. Our dogs loved this and we loved them having a safe place to go outside. From the décor to the necessaries...all were the minimum. There is not a carpet in the house...nor a lot of windows that opened (no cross ventilation). The kitchen had no windows or a hood vent, so be prepared for the house to smell for days if you cook inside. There were no supplies..not even salt and pepper, or saran wrap.There were not enough pillows for the beds. There were a few spares in the closet but no pillow cases provided. The towels were thin and tiny and there were not enough provided for the number of guests. The location and lot were great, but sadly we had pouring rain for the entire holiday weekend so we were stuck in the house. If we had been able to be on the beach the entire time the house would have been annoying but ok. As we had to spend the entire trip inside, it was awful. Very little air movement. Was damp in house. The tv is on satellite dish...so kept going out due to the clouds. The wifi was spotty at best, when it worked at all. We had our two children (under 4) with us and it was a family friendly home. The kitchen was well stocked which was great and we used the gas grill every evening. The home was clean but I could see it was cleaned a few days prior and unfortunately, the master bath has mold on the ceiling. All in all, great house! - Anonymous Posted on 10/1/2020 ### Palm Blvd 3204 (3/5 stars) The property description of the interior was accurate, however the exterior was not. The yard flooded due to heavy rain and took several days to drain. One of the planks on the footbridge came loose and broke apart from the bridge. I called maintenance to alert them and was told "we'll take care of it." No one ever came. This was a hazardous condition creating difficulty accessing the beach due to the heavy flooding in the yard. I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the house. It was obvious that extreme care was applied in sanitizing the house. The location was great. We would give this property a perfect score if the deck/boardwalk was extended all the way to the beach. Perfect location, great multilevel decking, excellent floor plan. Grocery store is a 4 minute drive. Beach is wonderful with easy long slope.. In all fairness regarding cleanliness, staff need more time or more people to properly clean homes. I like having entry to two of the bedrooms from outside deck. Oceanfront view is always nice. Kitchen is well stocked. I cook on vacation and found everything I needed. Be aware the walk to the beach is a bit long if you take a lot of stuff. Boardwalk ends about halfway there. That being said, the natural barrier between house and beach is attractive. Beach is nice and large-did not feel too crowded even in mid-June. Towels and sheets were fresh, but overall cleanliness of house was not great. It had definitely been cleaned, but details overlooked. Island Realty service was great. (4/5 stars) The house is great. Really like the layout for our group. The two bedrooms connected with a bathroom in between is perfect for parents and a three year old. The kitchen is very well stocked and very clean. The entire house was very clean. I would suggest that the ice be dumped after each guest. The rug on the screened porch needed to be vacuumed also. We had a tropical storm dump a lot of rain on Monday. The rest of the week's weather was great. However, we had to wade through about two feet of water in the back yard to get to the beach. It became very dirty and yucky by Saturday but had not gone down much. The home was well located, private, quiet, clean, airy, modern, cool, light-filled and spacious. The home was more beautiful than the on line photos indicated. The kitchen was phenomenal and fully equipped with everything imaginable. The only down side was the dining room table was not especially comfortable for "long sits" -we are card/game players and while it was OK for dinner, long Monopoly games were uncomfortable. The management company was organized and responsive. Truly a wonderful vacation! Private lush back yard with private path to the beach. No need to bring anything for the kitchen as it is well stocked with any cooking utensil or pots you will ever need! This particular house is awesome. The kitchen is well equipped, the decorating is lovely, and the location is perfect. We stayed here with our daughters and grandsons. There was plenty of room for all of us. The back yard was very nice and the walkway to the beach was perfect. The house had a perfect beach front location with private beach access. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything needed for the foodies in our group that liked to cook. Maybe a few extra dish towels and pot holders but otherwise perfect kitchen. We had plenty of room for 4 adults and 4 teenagers. The house was very clean and comfortable. If I had one minor complaint it would be that we could not adjust the a/c lower than 72 and it was warm at times but the house had ceiling fans in the bedrooms so that helped. My only complaint is it needs TV's in every bedroom. At night when you are winding down for bed when you want to get away and watch your favorite TV program or catch up on the news there is only 2 TV's in the house in the main living area and what I think is considered the master bedroom. Unfortunately in the middle of our week the television service ( Direct TV) went out and despite a visit from the Island Realty technician the service was never turned back on for the next three days of our stay. I also didn't love having the cleaning service show up at 9:30 on the day we were checking out--check out is 10. The large open spaces were great for the kids (all under 2) to run around and play, and each of the bedrooms was spacious and comfortable. The house has all the amenities we needed (ample parking, central A/C, kitchen appliances & cookware, grill, etc), and the open deck, screen porch and private boardwalk access to the beach were great for enjoying the weather. To top it all off we were an easy 25 minute drive to downtown - perfect!
