The place needs some updates. Spare bathroom has visible water damage and needs repairs and some attention to make it look better. The shower head in that bathroom is also way to powerful and causes water to go everywhere even outside the shower. There was no shower curtain only a cheap clear liner which blows in and clings to your body. One of our guests fell up the extremely steep stairs when she reached for the rail and it fell off and the nails came out. Porch needs some attention and maybe pre warn guests of how steep the stairs are. The house was very dated and overall needs attention. Curtains in living room had staining. The positives being it was roomy and it was clean and it a great location. (1/5 stars) This house was in a good location, an easy walk to the beach and many places to eat. It does sit along a busy street. Everything else about the house was a major disappointment. The entire interior is old and shabby. It appears to have been last updated in the late 80s and any recent additions were done as cheaply as possible. Everything in the house was old, falling apart, tired, or chintzy. The small TV in the bedroom sat on a dresser and could not be viewed from the bed. There wasn’t a single drop of oil, grain of salt, or packet of sugar in the entire kitchen. I have never rented a house before that was so ill-equipped. The cheapo shower curtains clung to your body when you tried to shower, the wall in the bathroom was rotted and falling apart, the decks and furniture out back were filthy. Smoke alarms were missing and several lightbulbs were burned out. The walk to the beach access isn't but a couple of blocks. In July heat, glad we rented a golf cart (there is golf cart parking at the beach access at the end of the street) but walking wasn't a hassle when needed.I have to say that IoP parking enforcement is a black eye on the local government--I didn't get a ticket myself, but saw a number of them on cars parked where there was no discernable prohibition. I will follow rules, but make it easy to know what the rules are IoP! Particularly, be wary of the handicap spaces at the 9th St access. I saw tickets almost every day on cars that had HC stickers and tags. Honestly not sure why. The blue lines on the pavement are barely visible.Also want to mention that the staff at Island Realty were quite nice and helpful. There are two things I would note for planning purposes... The coffee cups are quite small, so next time I may bring my own coffee mug. Also, the light bulbs in the lamps in the main sitting area are a bit dim for old folks, so I may bring some 75W to switch out next time... It was a short 2 block walk to the beach which was great.There was also a grocery store and a few restaurants within a few blocks. I would have appreciated a few lightweight beach chairs to take to the beach and on on-line check-in would be nice, rather than having to go to the office. Our check in was prompt and caring regarding the weather. We were prepared for the property being dated from previous reviews. What we weren't prepared for was how quiet and relaxing our stay would be. The location is preferable for getting on and off the island, to the shops or to the beach. Good value for the location. We only had two in our party however this property will sleep at least 6 more people. Bring your own beach chairs. The house was in good shape other than a strong moldy smell in the living room. The peak of the cathedral ceiling showed some mildew from previous leaks. After a very long hard rainy period the ceiling began to leak and then the texture layer pulled away and fell. House needs a new roof and living room ceiling. The rest of the house was in very good shape, clean and comfortable. The location on Palm Blvd was a short walk to the beach and convenient to shopping. This house has everything we needed and then some! Well-stocked kitchen made cooking really easy. We found the beds and furniture very comfortable. Loved the back decks and the outdoor furniture. (Plenty of chairs!) Listing states that the property is 1.5 blocks to the beach, but it is really 2 to 2.5 blocks, since beach access is between 2 streets.
