We have come to Wild Dunes quite often over the past 35 years. All of our stays were good, but this year was really good. The original leasing experience was very smooth and the agent very helpful. The check-in was also painless, but the most amazing thing was this year the cleanliness of the condo was top notch. In addition, the unit had a very good layout and location right beside the beach. The screen door still does not open easily and has to be forced open to get out. For the most part everything is good. However, this condo could use a deep cleaning and new kitchen cabinets. The bed was alright but not the most comfortable for old backs. It is the best feeling looking out your window or porch and seeing the sand and hearing the surf. It was clean and adequately furnished. Fortunately, the shower had double heads because one handle was broken. There were enough towels. The views from the bedroom, living room and screened porch were great.Two hurricanes had passed off shore leaving eroding tides. F101 is on the first floor, we enjoyed a nearer sea than originally expected. However, we still had sand dunes. Nevertheless, we cancelled our umbrella and chairs because the high tides threatened them. Sitting on the screened porch was a good substitute under the circumstances.The condos to the north were installing very large sand bags to simulate dunes. Only had a few things that didn't work that was the TV in the bedroom and the Internet wasn't the best. I think the mini fridge at the wet bar works it just wasn't turned on. It is right on the beach and next to the pool. There was plenty of space for my family - 2 adults, 2 kids. I know some people complained about the sofa being lumpy, but we never used it - we were either on the beach or had it out as a bed. Yes, the porch door doesn't open all the way, but it opens enough for a person to get out the door without issues. We didn't use that door often anyway. POC in general could use some updating to the property, but over all it was clean and well taken care of. I would stay here again. One thing to remember is that this property is far north on the island, so it will take you an extra 15-20 minutes just to get to the connecting bridge. Bonus - the beach is not busy at all! We were notified that we could check in early which was a pleasant surprise. From the very start everything was perfect. The office staff was friendly and most helpful. We were checked in within 10 minutes. The condo was clean and all was in good order. It was just as described on line. I had stayed in this unit a number of years ago and the renovations were a surprise and welcomed. The bathroom and new shower were especially nice. The only little hiccup was the sofa. It could not be used as an extra bed because the the springs/mattress were totally worn out and uncomfortable but we were able to use the daybed instead. I would recommend updating that sleeper sofa. We did have to go out to purchase filters for the coffee maker as they were not provided. The shower had 2 shower heads but 1 had bad corrosion. The couches need replaced as there were stains. The mattress is tempur pedic which is difficult to get adjusted to. The thermostat will not let you adjust below 70 degrees which was an adjustment. The location couldn’t be better. Sitting on the deck was almost like sitting on the beach. The condo eas very clean and overall pretty updated. The kitchen is nice, but not the best equipped, stingy on flatware. The deck was great, but the screen doir only opened about 25 percent because it rubbed the floor and the screen was loose. The front screen door was hanging on a single hinge. A little maintenance will fix those things easily. So, I'm addressing some issues from our visit.We have used Island Realty for over 20 years, and have been pleased with most of the accommodations and service. Setting up a reservation, making payments, and enjoying our selection has been very good. This was the third time staying at IOP this year, twice using Island Realty.We made arrangements to stay at Port O'Call F1-1 July 18-22. We had stayed in Unit F201 a couple of years ago, and were very pleased with the beautiful furnishes that appeared to be quite new. Both units were clean and ready for our visit.F10's description was stated as "renovated kitchen with NEW Queen size sofa". We were disappointed as the kitchen had old cheap plywood, overly painted cabinet doors, not renovated. The two sofas were very old and seemed to not have any springs in them! When we sat on them, we fell backwards into holes which made it almost impossible to get out of them! There wasn't a comfortable place to sit. One of the bar stools was broken also. The washing machine didn't work on the last either.While we enjoyed our stay, we were tremendously disappointed in this unit. We paid alot for this unit and were expecting a better quality unit.We have reservations for Christmas with Island Realty. There is no way any human being could sleep on the sofa bed. The kitchen is well stocked with non essentials, however the essentials were either missing, cracked, chipped or worn. Total of 6 spoons (TBL and tsp spoons total). No ice maker, no screens on any doors or windows. The windows appear brand new however they are so heavy duty you cannot even hear the ocean thru them. Without screens, opening the windows allowed insects in. The view was fantastic, though. Mini blinds in disrepair - had to tape slats closed to allow for privacy. Bathroom needs a deep clean / remodel. Had to purchase a bed pillow as the provided pillows were very flat and stained. I am sure a dog must have stayed in the unit because bedroom carpet was imbedded with small burs that blended into the pattern and stabbed your bare feet and were difficult to remove from carpet. It is a very long and very slow drive from the unit to the bridge that goes to Mt Pleasant. The assigned property manager at the rental agency was no longer employed 1⁄2 way through my stay - so no personal point of contact. Temp was the same so we contacted Maintenance and they had a tech there in 2-3 hours to check it out. It did not cure the problem so the next morning we contacted maintenance and they sent some one with a portable a/c unit. Work good enough to cool things to an acceptable level. On Monday A/C tech came again and repaired A/C unit to proper working order. All was good. Island Realty was great to work with. - Anonymous Posted on 4/27/2022 ### Port O Call F101 Winter 2022 (3/5 stars) In general, we really enjoyed our two months stay and look forward to returning to Port O Call in 2023. We also thank Island Realty for working with us on the construction issues and corresponding reduction in rent. On the flip side, our move into F101 and corresponding stay was rocky at the start and never really improved over 52 days. The temporary windows on the East and South walls are leaking as we left the unit and we had used the additional towels and linens in the unit to soak up the water in an attempt to keep from damaging any of the surrounding drywall. We called Island Realty maintenance on March 16th to report that wire mesh was hanging down under our dining room area floor outside the unit and it appeared that animals were pulling insulation out from under the unit. The maintenance representative indicated that this would be the responsibility of the POA and would contact them in regards to the need for repair. As of March 25th this issue was still unresolved. In light of our experience, we would not recommend anyone staying in F101 unless a very long list of customer concerns is properly addressed. This list was provided to the Owner Representative at Island Realty. The Owners Representative did respond and committed to following up to address these issues. But in general, inside the unit was worn and dirty. The furniture inside is well maintained; outdoor patio furniture shows expected wear but is comfortable. The screen porch is a fabulous feature and I enjoyed coffee in the morning, ice cream in the evening there while listening to the waves at the beach. We were there for spring break and enjoyed the large beach area at this part of IOP. Its much less crowded than other places on IOP that we explored. The condo is WONDERFUL. Gracious space to move about and put our things. Love the extra hooks placed in the right places - like for towels or clothes on the bathroom door, and the hooks near the entry. Lamps and recessed lighting are appreciated! And we really loved opening the crank windows to enjoy a morning or evening breeze inside. Twice in 2019 and now May 2020. I am easy to please. However, we have had issues with all three stays. Therefore, we have decided to give up on F101. There seems to be a consistent lack of attention to details in keeping this unit at a proper level equal to the money they charge. When we arrived at F101 this time, I immediately noticed the thermostat read 74 degrees but the A/C setting was 70 degrees. So, there was an issue with the A/C before we got there that needed attention. There was cold air coming out of the vent but the volume was too low to keep up with the thermostat setting. The temperature in the unit stayed around 74 most of the time but did get up to 78 the last day. In the entrance area is a return vent in the ceiling. There was a noticeable noise coming out of the return vent that reminded me of an old fashioned coffee percolator. This proved to be an ongoing annoyance when trying to sleep. My girlfriend has difficulty sleeping at night so she gets on the living room couch and tries to go back to sleep. The noise from the return vent prevented her from going to sleep. So the solution is to close the pocket door between the living room and entrance area. But, the pocket door is jammed in the wall and can’t be closed. Next, the TV in the living room worked well. We could not get the TV in the bedroom to come on. Maybe it’s batteries or something else. Doesn’t matter didn’t work. Another issue is raised nails on the wooden steps leading down to the beach. Easy to snag your foot on nails raised about 1⁄2 inch. Finally, the nice 4 slice toaster only works correctly on the left side. The right side lever will not stay down so the only way to use that side of the toaster is to hold down the lever until the bread is ready. In addition, a close friend recently stayed in F101 and described it as "dirty". The view is perfect, the furnishings were very comfortable, and the kitchen (though small) was well-stocked. My only complaint was the spotty WiFi and phone service and the concierge service from Island Realty. I rented bikes through their concierge service to save time and hassle but they were delivered a day late and picked up a day early. I was offered one day reimbursement which did make up for some of the frustration. We saw roaches in the dishwasher last year on our last night and when we called Island Realty they said they were “leftover” from the construction and they would go away. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and decided to stay here again this year and we saw roaches yet again. Since we were still on the island, I went and talked to Eric Stone who said it’s not uncommon to see an occasional roach unless it was an infestation of 25-50 roaches. He even claimed every house on the island & in Downtown Charleston is infested with them. We’ve stayed at other properties in Isle of Palms and Downtown Charleston and never had roach issues. He said the property was sprayed regularly by pest control and he also promised to call the Exterminators to see the last they sprayed & get back to me. He said depending on the timing of the last spray, they might could come out Thursday or Friday. Long story short, he never called/texted back, so we won’t be staying here or with Island Realty ever again. We called the office and got the answering service. Received a call back from a gal who informed us she didn’t have us registered guests. After much discussion she agreed to sent someone to fix our lock and let us in. At 8:40 pm that person arrived! Cob webs were on the walls, very stained carpet, and sheets and mattress pad were ripped. TV was hooked up wrong and garbage disposal leaked all over the floor. Maintenance responded quickly to these problems when contacted. Wake up with the sunrise over the beautiful dunes then open your porch door and you are right on miles and miles of glorious beach. The unit has been updated and comfortably slept the four of us. While the February weather was a little wet and chilly, the screened-in porch was the perfect spot to reminisce and laugh over a lifetime of memories and to make new ones with 3 of my lifelong friends. Highly recommend. Would recommend - Huey's Southern Eats for breakfast. Our server Linda was great. For dinner, the Boathouse and Crave hit the spot. The rooftop bar at the Market Pavilion Hotel in Charleston is also a must. The unit was beautiful and homey. The owners of this unit have taken great care to make the guests comfortable. It was a great place to spend a week. I loved the screened in porch facing the ocean. My only issue was when lightning struck the building next door the night after we arrived and knocked out all communications, including telephone, tv, and wifi. This did not get repaired until the night before we left, despite numerous phone calls to report the problem. We had to go to the beach or courtyard to use our cell phones because they would not work in the unit. Initially I did not mind the inconvenience because weather can cause unanticipated problems. My issue was that it took 4 days following the event before the problem was fixed. The repair wasn't done until late evening the night before we left. I was disappointed I couldn't get a quicker repair. It limited our ability to plan activities because we didn't have access to the internet to look up times, costs, directions, etc. We could not make or receive a phone call if we were in the unit. 2 days following the initial storm there was another storm with tornado warnings and we had no way of tracking the storm for our safety. The moment I walked into my condo at Port 'O Call I knew my getaway was off to a great start; the condo was beautifully decorated and absolutely sparkled! I was in an ocean front condo and had a glorious view of the ocean, I was steps away from the beach AND a screened porch equipped with rockers completed my home away from home. I love the beach in October, I had perfect weather during my stay , blue skies during the day and beautiful harvest moons hanging over the ocean by night which Ienjoyed from my rocker on the porch . My bed was perfectly comfortable and the ocean lulled me to sleep. I enjoyed eating at the many Restaurants which are close by. My kitchen was also fully equipped for the nights my guests and I cooked in. The staff at Island Realty were so courteous and helpful anytime I reached out to them . My trip was five star all the way around, I plan to go again next year and will once again stay at Port 'O Call!
