We notified via text and when no response, had to call the emergency line. They sent someone out the next morning but it was nearly noon and a hot night. Before the HVAC repair folks came out the next day we noticed that the food left overnight in the fridge was not cold and the shower downstairs was not draining. Before the fridge repair person arrived, we noticed the ice in the bowl had melted over night in the freezer. The repair person found something wrong with both units and said the fridge was 60 degrees likely not keeping our food cool enough to be safe. While the AC was repaired and we were given two smaller fridge/freezer units temporarily to use during our stay, it sure felt like we should have been compensated for all the trouble. The beach construction going on in front of our house lasted all week so it was more challenging to get beach access, while not the fault of the rental, it piled on with the other issues. Listening to the ocean from the back porch at sunrise & sunset is hard to beat. The rental company was wonderful - provided a lot of information to help plan our visit (was a first time in this area for us) and answered all my questions, very pleasant and willing to help. There are many comments in previous reviews that were spot on.The door lock (only door in and out) is horrible. We ended up only locking it at night. It's not an easy process and the actual key does not work well in the lock. The chairs on the back deck - where you spend a great deal of time - really needs cushions. They are heavy wooden chairs and uncomfortable. We could not get living room lights or fan to work. Hot water runs in some showers, and not in others, especially master bath.The master bath shower has jets, they do not work, and shower is TINY. You need to bring everything with you for the kitchen. There are a few pans and one casserole pan - but bring everything else you need yourself. Contrary to other reviews - there IS a Keurig coffee maker and works great. You can fit 3 cars comfortable underneath in garage - BUT when you put garage up and down you have to hold the button the whole time. Outdoor shower is inside the garage in the back, not outside someplace, but convenient before walking up stairs to go inside. Finally, the refrigerator was on the coldest setting but it didn't keep things very cold. just FYI. There are really just 4 spots to sit in the living room - the couch is just two pieces to a bigger couch possibly, pushed together, along with 2 chairs. If you have a huge family/group coming - there is not a lot of places to sit in the one area for sitting offered. All in all - the house worked well mainly due to the location and the view. However, just want future renters to be prepared for some of these issues. While others have commented on the wear and tear on the house, you really can't expect not to have it when you consider the number of people who come and go. I always treat rental units as if they were my home but not everyone feels that way. We appreciate the owners allowing visitors to rent the house. (4/5 stars) Our family recently stayed at 9 Summer Dunes Ln., which was large and roomy, accommodating all eleven family members. The access and view to the beach were phenomenal, and the sunrise over the ocean was breathtaking, guaranteed to wake you up in the morning. The nearby city of Charleston provided excellent shopping and touring opportunities.The kitchen was spacious, featuring a high-capacity refrigerator and freezer, and we found the Viking stove/oven delightful to use. However, be aware that there are no cleaning supplies or spices provided, so you'll need to bring or purchase those. The grill was of good quality and very clean, perfect for our couple of meals. Cooking and dining in the house were enjoyable, with plenty of space to accommodate everyone. Everyone enjoyed using the pool table upstairs during downtime.Overall, the place was clean, but there were some issues. The bathroom drains and jacuzzi tub needed a thorough cleaning, the air vents were extremely dusty, and the artificial plants in the kitchen were also quite dusty. Despite this, all the linens were very clean. We encountered a few maintenance issues during our stay, but the staff at Island Realty were responsive and did their best to resolve them.The house features four full bathrooms, with towels limited to about three sets per bathroom. Extra towels are available for a fee from the management company. Located in the Wild Dunes resort, the house offers access to chair/umbrella and bike rentals. All the bedrooms were comfortable, though the furniture in the living areas was very worn and in need of replacement. The shower in the master bedroom was extremely small and outdated.The Wi-Fi was weak and inconsistent, making it challenging to do any work from the house. The TVs were antiquated, with the master bathroom being a tube TV. The view is fantastic and you can’t get any closer to the beach. Just a few steps out the back and you’re at the dunes. Five bedrooms and the master BR is gigantic with lots of windows. There were nine of us staying there, including three teenagers, and we had plenty of space for each other. Other reviews will say the furniture is outdated and the house needs some repair let me tell you this was a non-issue. The furniture was comfortable, and the repairs that are needed are cosmetic. I would gladly be this close to the beach at this price instead of being concerned about those issues. We’ve been to Wild Dunes several times and stayed at different places. We’re coming back here next time. Space and views for days. Island Realty was nice and professional from the time I got the text to come by to pick up the keys and packet for check-in to the checkout. The process was so easy. The house was perfect for our NYE gathering. The only issue I say that people should know is that if you have problems with lots of stairs this may not be the type of setup especially if you have members that are elderly or have disabilities. The house has an elevator but not for use. The furniture on the top floor is dated, but it's enough seating for sure up there, but beautiful views. The refrigerator I read people had issues with it. What I don't think people realize is that the freezer is down at the bottom and the refrigerator part is up top. Found that out the next day when my veggies were frozen along with some drinks... We’ve had a great family vacation for 10 here. The pool table and play space were great for “kids” of all ages. The bed in the master bedroom is extremely comfortable. And the location and views are the best. We really appreciated the bikes being there for us to use at our leisure. Respectfully though- there are some things that should be taken care of that have obviously been there a long time. There is a leak in one of the master bedroom windows. The dryer was not getting our clothes dry at all so my son pulled it out and noticed all kinds of lint (fire hazard) that had obviously collected over an extended period of time. He cleaned it out and now the dryer works fine. This should be something that is checked periodically as a safety measure. There is rust in the refrigerator, again this is another health issue. The location is great. The beach is wide even at high tide. We enjoyed Wild Dunes. It was a beautiful area to walk and bike around. The rental company was excellent and very responsive when we had a stopped up bath tub. The bedrooms and bathrooms were fine with the exception of the small tubular master shower. We used other bathrooms to shower. The living room and bonus room furniture were just very dated and rather uncomfortable. Only about 5 people could sit in the living room of a 5 bedroom house. We had to bring in dining room chairs to accommodate more people. There was one old lamp and no window coverings. It was like being in a fish bowl when the sun went down. The kitchen appliances were dated but functional. We had to purchase hot pads and dish towels. Stove top worked well. The oven did not as it took longer to cook things. We would rent again from Island Realty. And would stay in Wild Dunes as well. We will not be returning to 9 Summer Dunes Lane. If the owners do not care enough to properly furnish the main living areas, then we choose to not stay at their beach house. - Anonymous Posted on 2/27/2023 ### Beautiful view with uncomfortable furniture (5/5 stars) We stayed at 9 Summer Dunes Lane for two weeks in February. The views were just stunning. The rental company was great and very responsive when we had a minor issue with a blocked bath tub which was corrected quickly. The beds were okay. The bathrooms were okay with the exception of the master shower which was very narrow and difficult to use. We just ended up showering in another bathroom. The living room and bonus room furniture were dated and rather uncomfortable. For a five bedroom house, you would hope to seat more than 5-6 people in the living room, but this was not possible without bringing over dining room chairs. The deck furniture was sturdy and rather hard to sit on for more than an hour or so. Using a pillow on the seat helped a bit. The couches in the bonus room were easily 15-25 years old. If the owner would just spend some of the rental income on new living room and bonus room furniture, this place would be spectacular. Window coverings on the main level would also be helpful. It felt as if we were in a fish bowl each evening as the sun went down. Wild Dunes was a great place to stay. We rented bikes and enjoyed biking the property. The beach was really wide even at high tide. My final suggestions would be this: spend a few extra dollars a month for High Definition channels (the Super Bowl was a bit fuzzy) and buy living room and bonus room furniture. Also, another lamp or two for the living room would be nice. Enough bedrooms and bathrooms.Island Realty was very helpful with the following problems. No towels/ no potholders/ no dishwashing and laundry detergent/ no set of measuring cups for the kitchen. Owner needs to have property ready for occupancy at $1000+ per night. There is a sense of carelessness about the upkeep of the place. Some things are great like the refrigeration units while the grill is ancient and ready for the Smithsonian, for example. WE had to buy a lot of stuff that should have been provided. Bottom line the owner needs to put some money into the place or reduce what they are charging. The lady who helped us with the problems was surprised that minimum standards were not being met. The views from the living room and porch and unmatched to anywhere else we have ever stayed in our 15 years of staying on Isle of Palms. There are no buildings in your line of sight to the front or left of the house giving you amazing 180 ocean views. The rest of the house, particularly the bathrooms and kitchen appliances, all appear to be from the 1980’s. Thing worked (except the washing machine which was relaxed while we were there) but the house is just outdated. If you don’t care about the upgrades and only want a good ocean view then this is your house. The location is perfect- incredibly easy access to the beach. The house is lovely. The air conditioning kept up great with the size of the house. The main level living room would get pretty warm in the heat of the day, but would cool down quickly. We had several hiccups with the property (refrigerator issue and stove issues- both completely fixed) and were impressed by the property management's quick and kind responses. The rooms had great spaces. They upgraded all the televisions and installed a brand new grill the week before we arrived, so that was nice. The downstairs bedroom behind the kitchen got a little warm during the day, as well, but cooled off fine at night. The bonus room upstairs was a cozy retreat for our kids. (4/5 stars) Summer Dunes 9 is located in the Wild Dunes resort community and is relatively secluded from Isle of Palms vehicle and human traffic. This property has wonderful ocean views from all 3 levels. There are bedrooms and bathrooms on each level, providing some privacy even within your group. Perfect for multiple couples or families. The bedrooms were great for our party. The deck and beach in the back yard were amazing. I would only say I wish the ice maker was turned on prior to our arrival. It was not on, and did not start working until the day before we left. Also, I wish we had know to bring coffee filters. Other than that, it was great! - Anonymous Posted on 4/16/2021 ### Recent stay (4/5 stars) Great location - the property is older, and as others have mentioned, could use some sprucing up, but as long as the owners are ok with it, one can use it without having to worry about little dings and scratches - they are already there. We had an issue with the wifi, but the company that services it was very responsive and fixed it over the phone - great service (and you need wifi as cell service is pretty spotty in Wild Dunes). - Anonymous Posted on 3/23/2021 ### Ocean Serenity (5/5 stars) This home was perfect for our family’s needs! The oceanfront views were spectacular from sunrise to sunset. The home is spacious and provides space for privacy and congregation. Though well dated in terms of furniture and appliances, we found this only to enhance our stay because I did not need to worry about any property damage. I was at ease not having to worry about accidental spills and breaks. When I notified the rental provider about an issue with the oven and dishwasher, they were responsive and assured me that the concerns would be addressed. My only recommendation would be to upgrade the bedroom and den TVs. If you require a home that is perfect in every way, this isn't it. But if you are fine with a huge home right on the beach with everything you need and at a great price, this IS IT! We had a couple of issues that Island Realty handled promptly. Everything in the master bath worked fine. The porch furniture is fine. The decor is dated, but you're in a lovely home on the beach. We would definitely rent this home again. If you have any problems, contact Island Realty immediately. Great view. - Anonymous Posted on 7/28/2020 ### Family vacation in IOP, Wild Dunes (4/5 stars) I treated my three adult children an two grandchildren (under age 5) to a week at Summer Dune #9 on Wild Dunes IOP and will always treasure the wondetful memories of our experience. The houses location was steps to the beach. The property was large enough to accomodate everyone and all had their personal space to relax. Property was clean, but could use some updating. We asked that a couple things be fixed upon arrival, and maintenance took care of them quickly. Friendly service. Be prepared to climb steps, there are three levels, you get your cardio workout everyday. The area has some of the BEST restaurants in SC. House right on beach. We had 12 people in house, one family of 6 stayed in 3rd level. We were in town for a destination wedding in Charleston. Kids fished, big kitchen for cooking. Bring your own em towels and paper products and toiletries they give you minimal starter supplies. House needs updating, shower in master is like a space capsule we couldn’t get to work. The house was very clean and location on the beach was perfect. The dining area was spacious and the home was equipped with enough plates, glasses, silverware, pots and pans to make meals enjoyable. The appliances made meal prep a pleasure. The beds ranged from very comfortable to typical pull out sofa, but plenty of space to relax. The area was very quiet and safe, the parking plentiful and easy. All in all, a lovely place to spend a week. - Anonymous Posted on 8/7/2018 ### Great location, quirky layout, ok house (4/5 stars) Three families of 4 stayed here for 4 nights, and you simply cannot beat being able to walk out your door and been steps from the beach!! The interior and decor are very tired and in need of updating, but that’s not really why you get a beach house. The kitchen is equipped with a large fridge and freezer and easily accommodated food and drinks for us. The bedroom arranagemenra were a bit awkward for us (4 queen beds and 1 king) given all of our kids were far too small to sleep in a queen bed. We ended up putting the mattresses on the floor and also brought a toddler cot. The management company was very responsive throughout our stay— the propane tank on the grill was empty and quickly replaced. They also brought more towels because they hadn’t left enough for us at the outset. At this price, I expected better. House needs some updating - more functional sectional on first floor that allows for seating for more people, bigger shower in master bedroom, curtains on French doors of first floor bedroom, etc. Instructions on how to use the gas stove and oven would be helpful. (5/5 stars) We were pleasantly surprised that we could rent this property for the long weekend since the peak season hasn't yet started. Our appreciation for this property and management company continued upon our arrival when we were able to check-in a couple hours early and the pictures proved to be accurate reflections of the house. The location could not be better, right on the beach with great views, decks, and beach access right next door! This was the perfect property for our girls getaway with an open kitchen/living/dinning room concept. Everything was wonderful, with our only minor being the slightly outdated bathrooms and furniture.
