Bridge Run

Whether you're an avid runner or a jogging newbie, the annual Cooper River Bridge Run is one of the most exciting events in the country. No, seriously--now in its 39th year, the 10k run across the Arthur Ravenel, Jr. Bridge over the Cooper River attracts nearly 40,000 participants and many thousands more who come just to enjoy the festivities of the race weekend in sunny South Carolina.

But along with an event as big as the Bridge Run come some big questions, like where do I stay? How do I get to the start line? Where do I go AFTER the run? What if I'm a really bad runner? (Okay, that last question might just be mine, but I'm willing to bet I'm not the only one who is a little more comfortable watching runners than being a runner...)

This year, Island Realty has partnered with the 39th Annual Cooper River Bridge Run as the run's title accommodations sponsor. We love not only showing off our area and its fantastic events to visitors, but also supporting the philanthropic aspect of the race. With these things in mind, we're so excited to help answer some of your most burning Bridge Run questions in this week's installment of Where to Wednesday!

Where do I stay?

You're probably prepared for the race, but are you prepared to relax? You'll get to see some amazing sites during the Bridge Run, but 10 kilometers alongside 40,000 people can wear a runner out! Nothing says workout recovery quite like kicking up your heels in front of your own private, heated pool and looking out over the Atlantic Ocean.

An Island Realty house can be your personal post-run oasis.

Check out this two-bedroom, pet-friendly home on Isle of Palms! Because who really wants to pay a pet-sitter and leave your pooch at home? It's still available for Bridge Run weekend!

Or if you have a few more people in your party, why not all stay together in this three-bedroom, two-bathroom house just blocks away from the Isle of Palms Connector?

How do I get to the startline?

Fear not, runners! There will be a shuttle picking up runners from the Mount Pleasant Towne Centre and dropping them off directly at the startline. Towne Centre is just an eight minute drive away from Island Realty's centrally located office on Isle of Palms! If you don't want to bring your car on your Bridge Run weekend getaway, our concierge is happy to help you secure transportation to and from Towne Centre.

Where do I go after the run?

Anywhere your heart desires! We'd recommend starting at the Finish Festival in Marion Square in the heart of downtown Charleston. As soon as you cross the finish line, the festival will be there to greet you with food, drinks, and tons of cool local vendors showing off some amazing Lowcountry wares. When you're done at the festival, shuttles will take you back to the Mount Pleasant Towne Centre so you can get back to your Island Realty vacation rental.

After that, the world (or at least, the Charleston area) is your oyster! So eat some oysters! Or, some barbecue at a favorite local hangout, a burger at a dive bar, a five-course meal at a gorgeous oceanfront restaurant...you get the idea. Our concierge is ready and willing to assist you in choosing where you want to go and making reservations to help you get there.

But there's more than just food! The area is full of incredible culture, history, and adventure. Check back every Wednesday on the blog for more ideas on where to go during your trip!

What if I'm a really bad runner?

Don't say that about yourself! You're probably a lot faster than you think! But, hey, if you don't want to run, we totally understand. You're allowed to walk the Bridge Run if that's more your speed. Or, maybe you want to let the rest of the family go run while you sit and relax here...

Now that's a view worth running to.
